The paper collages by Ernst Miesgang (* 1980 in Linz) from the series CRITTERS (German: Viecher) are made from advertising brochures and free print media, with which cities like Vienna are flooded. Like a plague, they contaminate the atmosphere in public spaces, infecting people with fear and hostility. "I tear pictures out of these brochures and arrange them or their elements into independent compositions. They are reminiscent of historical charts or microscopic images of organic entities such as insects and crawlers or bacteria and viruses," says Miesgang. As a "canvas" Miesgang uses yellowed and dirty backs of flea market pictures, to which these distinctive shapes and elements are glued. The largest collages are over two meters high and consist of hundreds of torn paper pieces.
