The exhibition „Portrait” shows authentic portraits in the form of hyperrealistic paintings by Gottfried Helnwein, whose motifs refer to themes of injury, violence and abuse, which are omnipresent topics in his oeuvre. Contrary to that, the portraits in Hundertwasser's color-intensive, decorative-ornamental painting style appear both in the form of unusually naturalistic and abstract head representations. Both artists approach the viewer in their own, unmistakable way and try to encourage the viewer to question themselves as humans in their environment.

March 2016 – March 2018
The child is at the center of Gottfried Helnwein’s oeuvre. In addition to the explicit display of violence, of mutilated and tortured children, which shape his early work in particular, in recent years Helnwein depicts the vulnerability and fragility of the child very subtle - almost painfully beautiful.
Gottfried Helnwein shows detailed children's faces in a dramatic composition of light and shadow on a contrasting monochrome background, creating the effect of maximizing what is shown. Besides the representation of the child as victim, the exhibition "The Beauty within the Horror" shows the child as well as perpetrator and thus refers to the dichotomy of the role of the child in Helnwein’s works.
07 January 2014 – 29 February 2016
At first glance, the works of Gottfried Helnwein and Friedensreich Hundertwasser appear to have little in common. Yet looking behind the surface, philosophical parallels in life and work of the two artists are opening up to the viewer: Startling activism, being an uncompromising revolutionist, profound social criticism and great visions, as well as the interaction with the beholder are important issues in life and oeuvre of Helnwein and Hundertwasser.
